For Teacher Appreciation Day 2016, I went to my local Children's Hospital to visit a student. He had recently been diagnosed with bone cancer and was facing a terrible prognosis. At the time, I felt shocked, scared, and heart broken. I had no experience with the complex and heart-wrenching world of pediatric cancer but I wanted to do what I could: I wanted to help.
Fast forward a year. This year, I wanted to focus on giving students the ability to help, too. I created these printables to be worn as lanyards by the other students. Whether they visit at home, at the hospital, or when a friend returns to school, this set will help the kids express their concern and support for their friend. They can even be used to support a teacher, parent, or administrator. It isn't easy to feel helpless when someone you care about is sick and students need help navigating the confusing and upsetting waters of a serious illness.
