This is a small experiment that can be done for Halloween fun! All you need is water, oil, vinegar, jars (or even small dixie cups), and candy corn! The lab sheet is made for 3-6 graders but you can just have lower level students make their Hypotheses and findings in their journals or extra sheet of paper. They can even draw pictures of what they observe instead of writing.
I set up the writing portion with indentations so it is easy for the students to recognize how many paragraphs needed to compare the candy corn at the end.
You could even use it for centers! Instructions on lab sheet are easy to follow!
When the students observe make sure that during the discussion they observe the change in color, whether or not it dissolved, did it turn the water color, etc.
