This is an Activboard / student interactive activity.
Who doesn't love taking some time out to tell math stories with candy corn?! Just as the weather turns crisp and thoughts of trick-or-treating are in the air, I pull out Candy Corn Math! My students love using candy corn in their learning and as a treat for all of their hard work once the lesson is over! See below for some tips! :)
Tips for utilizing this product:
~Download and print the student work mats. You can print on card stock and laminate or put in clear pockets for use with dry erase markers. You can download a copy of the work mat here: (link included in resource).
~Bag 12 pieces (2 extra) of candy corn per student in zip bags.
Pass out the bags of candy corn and work mats to each student.
~Students work along with you or student volunteers as it is worked through on the Promethean board. Students will use their candy corn pieces to model the math stories.
~Students will fill in the number bond and number sentences to match the story.
I have my students give an oral statement to answer the question posed in the math story.
~Download and print the practice pages for students to work through while they eat their candy corn. I allow my students to work in partners.
~There is an "Exit Ticket" option for students to complete independently so you can assess their learning for the day. You can download this resource here: (link included in resource)
