I don’t know about you, but it’s SO HARD coming up with counting on activities my kindergarteners can work on during center time independently. Luckily, this memory match game provides just enough scaffolding for young learners so they can experience success!
There are 32 colorful Memory Match cards included in this set; 16 cards feature a number from 1-99 plus (+) a pictorial representation of 2-6 yummy candies, while the other 16 cards feature the “answer” or the last number you say as you “count on.”
Matches in this game pair a “counting on” card with a number card. For example, if a player selects the “26 + 3 candy canes” card, s/he reads it as “26,” and while touching the candy canes, counts on: “...27, 28, 29.” Therefore, the match for this card is “29.”
Set up is simple! Print all pages on white cardstock. Laminate for durability. Cut out the cards. Play!
The rules work just like any Memory game you’ve played before. Set all cards face-down on the table. Have a player select 2 cards. If they match, keep the cards and pick again! If not, return the cards face-down to the table. It’s the next player’s turn!
My students love Memory games. I love that they’re able to practice counting on in an engaging way. I hope your class loves it, too!
