I have done this project for several years. It is a great project for tying in several different skills. Students will measure, work with timelines, and research. It involves both independent and group work. Students begin by making an 8x8 display of a candy with its picture, the date it originated, and one fact about it. (I make them find 3 and together we decide on the best or most interesting one.) When all projects are finished students are given different roles and work together as a class to design a display for their projects and create the display in the form of an accurate timeline. This was a challenge for me as an educator to step back and let them make mistakes, but the learning process and what the students take away is priceless!!! I make them do a write up at the end of what went as planned, what didn't, what was the easiest and hardest thing about the project, etc.
