This lab has an interactive, hands-on way to make the scientific method come to life!

Instructions:

Candy Science Lab: time: 60-90 minute class period
You will Need: 1 bag of skittles, 1 bag of M and Ms, 1 bag of Gummy Bears, and 1 bag of Jelly Beans, 1 set of small paper cups, (water), pitcher, (clock or timer).
Procedure: Place 4 small paper cups on each student group’s desk. Place one of each type of candy with the cups on the desks. (I usually give the students some candy before the lab so that they don’t whine the whole lab about being around candy and not being able to eat it). Then the students place the candy into the cups, they need to try and pour the water from the pitcher into the cups as quickly as possible for each. I have students check every 5 minutes on the candy, make observations and in the meantime work on another assignment. I have students graph as we go and fill in the rest of the lab, practicing the scientific method concepts.
