Transssfoorm your room into a Candy Shop to review essential skills! Perfect for beginning of 1st grade, end of Kindergarten or RTI in between! Much like an escape room or breakout room, students have to master stations to save the candy shop. Each station focuses on skills to review Kindergarten and beginning 1st grade skills. Most stations have differentiated options for all learners!
Skills Candy Shop Challenges will target:
- Reading and sorting by color words
- Graphing data
- Recognizing teen numbers (ex. 12 is 10 and 2)
- Adding using part-part-whole model and objects {jellybeans!}
- Reading, building, and spelling common high frequency words
- Initial letter sounds
- Missing short vowels (CVC words)
- Identifying the appropriate punctuation at the end of a sentence (question mark, period, exclamation point).
Candy Shop Challenges:
★ Candy Shop Inventory: Students sort assorted colored candy by reading color words. Labels for cups and sorting mat given for you to choose which way students will sort! Graph included for students to record data.
★ Teen Numbers: Students match picture representation of number (using ten frames) with the standard form OR expanded form (example: matching a picture of 12 with 10 + 2). Recording page and printable worksheet extension included. Black and white and color versions given!
★ Jellybean Addition: Print jellybean addition facts on color paper for students to solve and sort in the jellybean jar with the correct sum. A fun candy themed part-part-whole model is included to help use jelly beans to solve!
★ Peppermint Sight Words: Use peppermints with letters to build given sight words on word working mats! Printable peppermints also included if needed. Students read, build, spell and use the word in a sentence. Differentiated option will allow students to rewrite the word vs. use in a sentence. Want to use your own words?! Blank copy given for you to customize!
★ Lollipop Letter Sounds - Make lollipops by matching the letters with pictures to match the initial sound! Word work lollipops included to put in abc order or make words as an extension.
★ Short Vowel Gumballs - Find the matching gumball to match the initial & final sound of the CVC wordl Find the missing vowel!
★ Sticky Punctuation: Review the different types of sentences with punctuation shaped like candy! Slides are given to print or project to teach students the candy representing the punctuation marks. Students match their candy punctuation to the incomplete sentences given. Printable closing activity included!

These challenges can be implemented in a variety of ways. You can use them as stations throughout the week OR have the students rotate through the challenges on a given Candy Shop day! It took a few sheets of butcher paper, candy holding containers, and YouTube music to quickly transform our room!
