This lesson requires students to add sets of 1 and 2 digit numbers, and subtract 2 or 3 digits from 3 digit numbers. Students pretend they are opening a candy store and must create a candy bag and a box of candy to sell in their stores. Then they buy the bags/boxes from each other. The document is not locked for editing, so you can change the prices to meet the needs of your students. It is also easy to differentiate within the classroom by changing the size of the bag so students have more or less numbers to add. The download includes a teacher guide, printable candy clipart, printable bag templates, a printable box template, an editable/printable candy menu, a worksheet you can use for homework or assessment, and a photo of a finished product. I have taught this lesson with third grade students. If the box folding is too complicated for your students, just use a folded piece of paper (they can pretend it's a box with a lid).
