This file contains Dolch word cards that can be used as Candyland game cards. All you will need to play this sight word game is a Candyland game board and the Candyland pieces (These are not included). The Dolch Word cards included in this file can help students practice their high frequency words as a center or during small group time. It can even be sent home to have the parents play with their child.
This file matches my Dolch Word Cards With Student Checklist and therefore contains the following words:
This document contains the following Candyland word cards:
* All of the Pre-primer Dolch Words
*All of the Primer Dolch Words
*All of the First Grade Dolch Words
Additionally the following word cards are included:
*45 of the second grade Dolch Words (missing the word sit)
*37 of the third grade Dolch Words (missing the words cut, hot, six, and ten)
The reason the above lists have missing words is due to the words being CVC words. I found that it was not necessary to include these highly decodable words, and instead focus on harder less decodable words.
Also included are:
* 25 of the most commonly used Dolch Nouns
* The word cards "I'm" and "than" which are not part of the Dolch list, however, are on the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark list.
*Special cards that match the new and old version of the Candyland game board. These cards call for the students to move to the special spaces on the game board.
The words have been placed in frequency order by using the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Word Lists. The words cards have been colored coded in 4 different colors so that the cards can be differentiated throughout the year and could potentially be broken into marking periods. Since the cards match my Dolch Word Cards with Student Checklist the 4 color groups reflect the frequency lists. Word lists 1-9 are black, 10-18 are pink, 19-27 are purple, and 28-38 are green.
I suggest printing these cards on cardstock, though regular paper can work too, and then laminating the cards so that they can be reused!
Thank you! Please enjoy this Angry Teacher Creation!
