This is an assignment that requires students to select one of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales characters, analyze the character's description, and compare the character to its modern equivalent. Consider, for example, comparing the knight to a soldier or police officer, the shipman to a sailor, or the physician to a modern doctor.
★ The included two-column chart requires students to analyze physical appearance, educational background, job description, and social status of both their selected character and its modern equivalent. This is a useful activity that requires students to analyze text and research prospective careers.
