This lesson is designed to build on Challenge #1 and Challenge #2, and thus to be the third engineering design challenge your students experience. Based on a scenario, students work together in teams to build a cantilever out of uncooked spaghetti and tape. They follow the Design To Learn Engineering Design Process. This lesson folder includes everything (except material resources) needed to implement the lesson: slides, roll cards, student design sheets, a detailed lesson plan, do now, exit ticket, and homework.
The "Challenge" lessons can each be implemented separately but work best when used in their numbered order. More in depth engineering design lessons are recommended for students who have experience with engineering design (for example experience defining a problem).
While this resource can be used directly as is, feel free to make it your own! For example, the timing indications might not fit your teaching style or might be need to be extended or shortened depending on your classroom culture. The scenario could also easily be edited to better fit your students’ interests. This lesson can be split into two or more days.
