Are you teaching or reviewing capacity in customary units? If so, this would make a great supplement to your unit.
Your students will imagine they are employed at Capacity Supermarket and must restock the shelves. The shelves are labeled as cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. Students must put the items on the shelves according to their capacities. The items used are real photographs taken by me!
1. Give each student a black and white copy of the Capacity Supermarket and shelves.
2. On the Capacity Supermarket page, students will cut along the dotted line from top to bottom. Students will glue the edges of the two pieces to the page with shelves. This will create flaps. It will be as if the students are opening the doors to the supermarket! :-)
4. Your students will then cut out the capacity cards and glue them onto the shelves.
An answer key is provided!
I hope your students enjoy this activity!
