Product Description

This resource is a class game built to simulate certain dynamics of capitalism. The simulation is built to give students a sense regarding the flow of capital, production of goods, and sale of goods and how this generates wealth. In addition, the simulation seeks to call into the question of the fairness of capital distributed, and the psychological implications of the different roles within a capitalist economy.

When the game concludes, the teacher will discuss the capitalism simulation with the students. Focusing on the following questions:

  • How was our simulation like capitalism? How was it different?
  • What did you learn about how capitalism works?
  • Did you find the roles fair?
  • How could have the game been more fun?

Designed for use in an 8th grade History classroom in Oakland, California, but adaptable to many higher grades as well.

Note: this simulation is not meant to simulate capitalism itself, but rather certain dynamics that relate to patterns within capitalist systems.
