Product Description
Thumbs up for capitalization! Instruction begins with a lively, interactive PowerPoint presentation. After direct instruction, a series of holidays and product names appear on the screen. Students put their thumbs up or down to signal whether a holiday or product name is capitalized correctly. Corresponding lesson plans offer two worksheets (with answer keys) that can be used as practice or assessment, as well as extension activities that ask students to apply their knowledge.

This set was developed for intermediate students, but it is also appropriate for reteaching, review, and remediation at the middle school level.

What’s Included:
• PowerPoint presentation
• Lesson plans with extensions
• Text of PowerPoint presentation
• Two worksheets with answers

Overview:
1. Direct Instruction – Display and discuss rules for capitalizing holidays and product names with the PowerPoint presentation.
2. Guided Practice – Continue the presentation with practice exercises. Students put their thumbs up or down to show whether the phrase is capitalized correctly. This is great for whole-class engagement and formative assessment.
3. Independent Practice – Worksheet A allows students to practice their new skills independently.
4. Assessment – Worksheet B may be used as assessment or additional practice.
5. Extensions – Three extension activities allow students to practice capitalizing holidays and product names in real-life situations.
