This 2-page script on CAPITALIZATION involves young students in reading and reviewing information about when to use capital letters, as specified with the acronym MINTS. The script incorporates humor and contemporary references. Its context is a TV commercial for kids who need help knowing when to capitalize certain important words.
This script is written for 8 solo speakers, although you may make changes to have more or fewer solo speakers. There are many parts that require groups of unison speakers—Kids and ALL (meaning the everyone in the cast) so that teachers can use it with a whole class.
Reading and rehearsing the script reinforces information about capitalization while also increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning facts. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. This Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script is one of many I have created with students and teachers across the United States.
