Students can read this two-page informational text about Captain John Smith's life and contributions to the Jamestown Colony. Then, they'll answer ten SOL-type questions related to the reading (aligned with Virginia Studies VS.3 and Reading SOL 4.5, but applicable to any classroom). An answer key is included.
Note: This text is a bit longer and more rigorous than similar Virginia Studies/Reading resources I've created. That's not a bad thing, of course, but it may be a little more challenging. If you use it earlier in the year, I recommend using it with guided reading groups or as a whole class so that you can provide your students support as needed.
