Capture 5- A game for equivalent fractions

Looking for a fun math station this winter on equivalent fractions? Capture 5 is a game your students will want to play again and again!

Addresses fractions with a denominator of 2,3,4,5,6,8,10 and 12.

How to play:
This is a center game for 4 students. Each student will choose one of the game boards- each one is different.

Next, take one card and turn it face up. As a group, talk about what fraction is represented and what fractions are equivalent to the one shown on the card.

Once everyone agrees, each player may place one game marker (chip, coin, etc.) somewhere on their game board.

Play continues with the next player choosing a card from the deck for the group.

The game ends when one player has “captured 5”– gotten 5 fraction blocks in a row covered. They may win with a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal row of 5.

What's included:
-teacher prep
-directions
-4 different capture 5 student game boards
- 32 different fraction cards ( fraction of a whole, fraction of a set, and word form)
