This lab allows students to see, taste, and compare several different carbohydrates. I use this lab as a review after discussing carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids (the "chemicals of life"), but it would also be a great introduction. During the lab they will compare several carbohydrates like glucose, fructose, and starch. They will notice that, even though they are isomers, they are quite different from each other. Plus, they get to eat sugar!
