The 4 C’s stands for: Care, Concern, Celebration and Compliment
Care – What do you care about at the moment?
Concern – What is concerning you at the moment?
Celebration – Is there a celebration you are looking forward to or what are you celebrating?
Compliment – Do you have a compliment for someone (in, or beyond the classroom)?
Within my classroom, I have used these 4 words in the following way:
Morning meeting – Students sit in a whole class circle or in smaller groups (of 4-5) taking it in turns to pick one of the C’s to talk about among their peers.
Weekly journal entry – On a Monday morning, after the weekend, students complete a journal entry identifying one thing for each of the C’s or on a Friday afternoon, after the week has passed, they complete their entry.
Pair share – Students partner up and verbally discuss each of the C’s for a given amount of time. Have a stopwatch in view so students can see the time ticking down, their aim is to continue talking and questioning each other until the agreed time is up. No lulls in conversation!
