This full day of activities for you or for your substitute teacher will support your classroom study of career choices and education.
Included in this download are:
Morning and afternoon large group “messages” for students to complete and for the sub teacher to use as “get acquainted” and “end of day wrap up” meetings. Each message should take from 30 to 45 minutes of class time.
Reader Response papers for students to write after they have read independently for 30 (or more) minutes. Students will record what they learned about plot, characters, setting, and new words, whether they read a chapter of the book or the entire book. Non fiction readers will record facts learned. These reader response papers provide the opportunity for small group or large group sharing upon completion.
Activities on career education include:
•choosing adjectives and interests to describe you
•analyzing personal skills
•thinking about dream jobs
•reading about two unusual jobs:" Maggie Doyne, School and Orphanage Builder in Afghanistan", and "Storm Chasers"
•brainstorming jobs in a wide variety of career categories
•choosing a job to research (using available classroom resources) and write about (graphic organizers provided)
•taking notes on classroom job presentations
•analyzing personal job choices by using a Venn Diagram and/or T Chart
•reading about scholarships and loans for education
•matching up one’s dreams with realistic considerations
•and practicing the job interview
•Job games to play at end of the day
Math activities include:
•calculating a paycheck (multiplication of multi digit whole numbers and decimals
•Get A Job Gameboard with whole number and decimal multiplication practice and finding odd and even numbers.
Also included: activities grid showing materials needed and possible variations for differentiation of instruction; forms for a sub teacher; common core standards aligned
