This is a 4 page document that I used in my 3rd, 4th and 5th grade class to get parents into the classroom to discuss their jobs. This was an important part of our units in 4th and 5th grades as students begin to think about what they want to be when they grow up. In the school I taught in, we used the Big Idea concepts, and related this to maturity, as you will notice in the parent letter. Feel free to modify either of these documents as you feel fit.
Page 1: Parent letter/ sign up - Explains the importance of having parents in the room to explain their job for the benefit of students future. Since we work with the Big Idea, there is talk of our Maturity Unit, which can easily be translated into the need of maturity in such grade in general.
Page 2 and 3: Student Write Up (Accountability) I found that some of my students did not care much about the cosmetology presentation (or others). However it is still important that they are respectful and paying attention, and are held accountable for the information presented. Students are responsible for comprehending what the presenter discussed, as well as write a question and the answer, IF it is answered. These 2 sheets were collected and taken for a participation grade. If you have more than 4 presenters, feel free to edit as needed. OR explain that students are responsible for 4 of the __ presenters.
Page 4: List of questions that was given to parents that signed up ahead of time. This helped them to guide what they were going to discuss. This also helped keep parents on track, as well as take the edge off when talking to 30 little bodies.
Again, it is in a word document, so feel free to edit as needed!
