This multi-part career exploration activity is appropriate for 8th-12th grade students who are interested in exploring career options based on individual strengths and interests. In this activity, students research data found on the Department of Labor Career Exploration page. Students learn about career options, educational/training requirements, work environment, career outlook (national and state-level), salary, etc.
In the second part of the activity, students will select three online career assessment inventories to complete (links to 7 assessments are provided). They will record their results from the three online assessments and write a brief reflection using information they gathered from the Department of Labor Career Exploration tool and the three online career assessments they completed.
This resource also includes an extension activity: Create a career goal "vision board" activity. A sample vision board is included.
I use this activity with all of my Life Skills students and many of my Independent Study students in our Alternative Education program. This activity would also be appropriate for homeschool students.
