Career education is an important component of any comprehensive guidance program. It is difficult to find really FUN ways to present these concepts to elementary students.
This PowerPoint presentation is a great way to teach them to PK through 5th grade. It includes links to TEN different videos that can be used as the basis of the lesson or to introduce the lesson. Or, you can use the presentation as the lesson itself. (I love using PowerPoints or flip charts because they are so visual and I can link what I need to it so it is easy to access during the lesson.)
Video links range from 1:30 minutes to 28 minutes in length. They include, "Oh, The Places You Will Go!", Curious Kids, Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things, and others.
Video links include exploring being a fireman- 9+ min- excellent for preschool, a link to a fun "career-based" song about careers that has animation, a link to a short Sesame Street video that would be a great intro for any lesson, a link about planning for your career, a 4+ min video of famous people who started out a pretty ordinary humans, a 4:30 min animated video link about a person trying to decide his future career, and a 28 min video link covering a variety of careers- a sampler of sorts plus more.
I have compiled notes and videos that can be arranged in whatever order suits your needs. There are videos that are appropriate for very young students and some that are more appropriate for older students.
Videos are not embedded. They are links as is noted in the item description.
I use the Powerpoint format for lessons because it keeps me on track and helps me to make certain that I have covered all topics and have not forgotten any.
Please feel free to rearrange, remove, or add slides to fit your needs. If any of the links are non-working, please email me, and I will fix the issue.
