In this project students will explore an occupation in depth. They must find out what what the employment outlook is, what the occupation does, how much the annual salary is. They must also use their brains to research the local community to find helpful work experience at local businesses. I have Careers as a freshman course, so I make them map out the next three years of their high school career (as far as classes go) if they want to do this occupation later in life.
My students do four of these projects a semester. I allow about 4 weeks in between projects for them to work and research. They get one day a week in class to work.
During the course of the semester, they must do one report, one posterboard, one PowerPoint and then they can do something else like Prezi or they can repeat one of the previous forms. There are three rubrics as part of the project. One rubric, I use for ALL projects and then there are two specialized rubrics that I use depending on what form the student chose. Say a student decided to do a report, I would use the rubric that is for all projects AND the rubric for reports.
This project is worth 100 points.
