***NOTE: This set accompanies the ROUND CARIBOO game, not the rectangular version!***
Welcome to the Island!
Use this language and vocabulary set in conjunction with the Caribou Island game. This set was created to help teach students about Community Helpers, and includes these 19 occupations: Fireman, Farmer, Mail Carrier, Trash Collector, Pilot, Chef, Veterinarian, President, Dentist, Police Officer, Teacher (2 versions, one that matches my Help the Helpers unit and a newer version), Baker, Construction Worker, Reporter, Lawyer, Computer Analyst, Judge, Scientist, Doctor.
If you have my "Help the Helpers" unit, this would be a great addition!
Table of Contents:
Pg 2: Welcome and directions
Pg 3: Community Helper cards for the Island.
Pgs 4-6: Community Helpers matching cards for play
Pgs 7-9: Associated parts cards (each card includes items that are typically associated with each of the included occupations).
-print and laminate all sheets
-cut game board pieces (trapezoid shapes) and game cards (rectangular shapes) apart. You may choose to cut the top corners of the game board pieces, as indicated by the lines in the top corners. It is not necessary, as the pieces will still fit in the board without this step.
-choose the target words you want the student to identify/say that session, and put the those pictures into the slots on the island. Put the corresponding game cards into a pile face down on the table. You may also choose to use the “associations” cards in place of the matching cards. When they draw a picture, students would find the picture on the Island that is associated with the items on the card.
-have students pick a card and say the word, and then find the picture on the island.
-Use the key to open the compartment to find the coins.
