WELCOME TO THE ISLAND!
Use this language and vocabulary set in conjunction with the Caribou Island game. This set was created to teach verb vocabulary including these 26 words:
jumping, sitting, (ice) skating, kicking, dancing, riding, walking, sleeping, (roller) skating, skipping, washing, splashing, flying, blowing, smelling, brushing, reading, feeding,
hopping, popping, holding, throwing, swimming, hanging, standing, running.
*There are also 4 additional “verb variations” included, meaning you can choose if your students will use the verbs holding /cuddling, cheering/ jumping, skipping/jumping, or kicking/playing.

As your students are ready, these pictures naturally lend themselves to “subject”/pronoun work too! Pictures included depict “she” (15 girls), “he” (10 boys) and “they” (7 two person combinations). Help your students expand their utterances from naming single verbs (ex. “walking”), to phrases (“girl walking”) and sentences with a simple subject (“Girl is walking) or pronoun (“She is walking).

Directions:
-print and laminate all sheets
-cut game board pieces (trapezoid shapes) and game cards (rectangular shapes) apart. You may choose to cut the top corners of the game board pieces, as indicated by the lines in the top corners. It is not necessary, as the pieces will still fit in the board without this step.
-choose the target words you want the student to say that session, and put the those pictures into the slots on the island. Put the corresponding game cards into a pile face down on the table.
-have students pick a card and say the word (ex. “sitting”, “boy sitting”, “Boy is sitting”, “He is sitting.”), and then find the picture on the island. Use the key to open the compartment to find the coins.
-you may choose to also roll a die and have the students repeat the target words as many times as indicated by the die.
