Product Description
This presentation contains a 44 slide PowerPoint lesson in editable PPT format
In Europe, the satirical French magazine ‘Charlie Hebdo’ has been on the news along with the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten and their ‘Muhammad cartoons controversy’ in 2005. In sep. 2nd 2016, they published two caricatures that literally turned our stomachs. These caricatures sparked a debate about caricatures and the freedom of expression.
It Includes:
- The origin of caricatures
- the difference between a cartoon and a caricature
- the scientific explanation for our fascination with caricatures
- Who has rights ‘the subject of the caricature’ or ‘the caricaturist’, and how do we balance them?
- Is there a right ‘not to be offended?
- What does the law say?
- What do professional cartoonists have to say
- Can you tell the difference between a racist caricature and political criticism?
- Is there a limit to the freedom of speech?
- What are some of the most important caricatures in history

This was a fascinating lesson to make, if only for the contribution of the great Andy Davey –
http://www.andydavey.com/
(one of the greatest caricaturist of all times), who kindly allowed his caricatures to be used in this lesson and contributed his thoughts and opinions
I hope you enjoy this lesson
