This is a lovely activity I did with my grade 5 class in order to learn about Québecois culture and celebrate the Québec carnival. The full powerpoint explains through text but mostly images how each student can create a handmade bracelet. The design and colours were modelled after the traditional "ceinture fléchée" or arrow sash worn by early French pioneers.
My class loved this. In fact, they used the powerpoint to lead many other students in other classes in the school through the activity. Enhance learning through videos from the Carnaval de Québec website at carnaval.qc.ca. For grades 3-5 I suggest 1 or 2 parent or other volunteer helpers to assist with the craft. It does require purchasing string and may involve preparing the string for students, depending on their age and dexterity.
The powerpoint is also available in French from my store.
