This activity is a pre-reading strategy. Prior to the students beginning Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, they would take part in this fun activity. This previewing strategy is great for introducing plot, conflict, characterization, vocabulary, literary devices, and thematic ideas. It promotes group discussion and piques students' interest. They enjoy moving around the room and are more involved in small and large group discussions. If you do not have room to move about, it can also be done at students' desks.
