Celebrate Halloween and give students the practice they need at finding the vertex of quadratics with these Math-Then-Graph Activities.

Students are given a list of coordinate points to plot. Some of the points are disguised as quadratic equations. The students need to find the vertex of each quadratic equation. The students should connect the coordinate points (and vertices) only within the designated zones. When they are done, they will have a pattern they can use to carve on a pumpkin.

These activities include five complete versions, each with their own answer key:
 one version uses only quadratics in standard form
 one version uses only quadratics in vertex form
 one version uses only quadratics in sideways vertex form (or inverted form ... commonly used with conic sections)
 one version uses a mix of standard and vertex form
 one version that uses standard form, vertex form and sideways vertex form all mixed together.

Here are some tips:
[1] All points will be on one grid line or another.
[2] A completed picture has been provided to be used as a key.
[4] I have also found that printing graph paper directly from themathworksheetsite.com
helps out, but any graph paper will do.
[5] Remember to copy double-sided when necessary to save paper
