Bumper crossword puzzle (with solution) based on the movie.
This is a vocabulary quiz. There are 43 words/clues. Each word is either a police or military/war word. Some words are specific to World War Two. All of these words are used in the film. To really understand the movie, students should be familiar with this vocabulary. It's quite challenging, yet students enjoy the crossword format. This is an active learning resource.
With weaker or EAL students, I suggest an initial lesson of dictionary work in which they find the meanings for the words, before watching the film. The crossword could be used immediately after this to check understanding.
Use after viewing the film as a fun revision activity.
This is also the type of activity you could use as a filler if you have nothing else prepared.
Words are: Abscond, Arrest, Blacklist, BlackMarket, Charge, ConcentrationCamps, Confidential, Conviction, Corrupt, Curfew, Custody, Document, Dossier, Elude, ExitVisas, Expired, Garrison, GeneralDeGaulle, Gestapo, Invade, Isolation, LettersOfTransit, Neutral, Occupation, Order, PrefectOfPolice, Rationing, Refugee, Regulate, Rescind, RoundUp, RunGuns, Shadowed, Squad, Subject, Suspect, ThirdReich, Traitor, Triumph, Underground, UnoccupiedFrance, Warrant and Witness.
A word bank is supplied to support students. You could redact this to make the puzzle more challenging.
The solution is printed on the second page. Download the preview file to see the solution and the grid.
