The following is a case study of a patient who went to an apple eating festival. She falls ill. Data about cellular respiration metabolites, physical symptoms, and lab values are given. Students are asked to make inferences from lab values and description of her symptoms. A student skit accompanies the case study that students can perform for fun prior to giving out each sheet. An extension comparing lab values from the patient and another patient who died is given as well. Students are asked to act like doctors to write a comprehensive report to the patient and/or patient's family. Rubric for the unit is given as well.
This is a very advanced case study which requires students to evaluate and synthesize the information they learned at the AP biology level.
