Casey at the Bat Power Point and Activity Packet
There is also a bundle with this activity packet and the very exciting sequel, Casey's Revenge by Grantland Rice for only $6.99 @
This is a bundle of lessons and instructional resources related to Ernest Lawrence Thayer’s Iconic poem Casey at the Bat. I have been teaching Casey at the Bat for ten years and then noticed that there was a different version of the poem in the Pearson text book. So to avoid confusion, I have come up with power points and activity packets for the two most popular versions and have bundled them both here. This bundle contains.
Two Casey at the Bat Power Point Presentations
These both are entertaining and colorful power point presentations with worksheets. This is an interactive Power point presentation with attractive clipart and graphics
1) Two interactive and colorful Power Point Presentations on each of the two most popular versions of the poem. These presentations contain exciting clip art and graphic images which allow your students to actively participate in a discussion.
This is a cloze caption activity where students try to reconstruct the rhyme scheme of the poem. In each stanza there are two words omitted which will complete the end rhyme scheme of a couplet. I have used this for ten years and the students love it. I have enhanced the imagery of the PPT’s and this should also enhance student enthusiasm focus.
2) A comprehensive step by step lesson plan which is aligned to US Common Core Standards.
4) An audio recording of the poem. This allows the teacher to stop the recording at appropriate places to clarify and discuss the action.
5) The Casey at the Bat worksheet which contains 21 pages of activities including,
a) Discussion questions with answer. This is an evidence-based activity where students answer questions and find lines from the poem using evidence (lines and couplets) from the poem
b) Vocabulary activities-This is a cloze exercise word attack activity where students scan the poem to find 16 vocabulary words. The vocabulary activities contain hints as to what stanza the vocabulary words appear in. Hints can be removed from vocabulary exercises and the text of the poem can be attacked as a whole to make it more challenging. Answer sheet is included
c) A figurative language Graphic Organizer where students again scan the poem to find examples of five types of figurative language.
Answer sheet is included.
