Casey at the Bat by Ernest L. Thayer is a famous poem written at the turn of the 19th century when baseball was a popular national pasttime. This unit comprises a comprehension worksheet, vocabulary words with definitions, and a test - both a regular and a modified version. The modified version is for those students who require accommodations or modifications. The worksheet requires a written response. It guides the student through the poem stanza by stanza. (Answer key is included.) The vocabulary words are pulled from the poem and definitions are supplied. The definitions reflect the part of speech or tense of the entry word. The tests are in a matching and multiple choice format to make grading easy. An answer key is included. Unit created by Jane Maitski.
