When I teach Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” I love helping my students understand all the ins and outs of the two characters: the evil Montresor and the oblivious Fortunato. The lesson starts with a day of close reading and textual evidence. On the second day, the students take their work from the first day and present it artistically. Alternatively, you could do this in one day of classwork and one night of homework. Enjoy!
