This Novel Study follows along with Castle in the Attic by Elizabeth Winthrop. There is a page for every chapter of the book. Students are asked to answer comprehension questions, define vocabulary words, make predictions, analyze quotes, make drawings, find literary elements from the text, and much more. This workbook can be done whole group during a read aloud, or completed individually or in small groups during a novel study. It also comes with some bonus ideas for extension activities!
I have found with my own class, that completing novel studies dramatically increases student engagement during read aloud. It helps students follow the story line and analyze the book on a deeper level. My students always have very detailed and in depth conversations as we fill out the novel study booklets together or review them after they are completed.
