This particular short story is called "Cat and the Coffee Drinkers" by Max Steel. This resource includes a vocabulary list with the definitions, a reading strategy minilesson on How Tone Can Change Words' Meanings, and a crossword puzzle for the vocabulary words, including the clues. I use this crossword as their summative assessment.
