Some teachers call them "Bellringers" or "Bell Work" I call it a "Catalyst" in my classroom. A catalyst, in chemistry, is what kick starts a reaction, and that is just what my opening questions are meant to do.
This document contains the student answer sheets only, no questions. Give students a form for the week and collect it on Friday to grade. Simply write the question of the day on the white board or display from a projector. The six forms included are tailored for different seasons.
Catalysts or bell work is a great way to get students motivated and start the day. They also make a great quick assesment and open up the class for discussions.
