This project has the students building their own catapult (a design is included or they can make up their own). The students will have to test their catapults against a wall to find their max height, then measure from the catapult to the wall to find one of their zeros. I used the floor as the x-axis and the wall as the origin. They have to graph their parabola and come up with a quadratic equation.
I included a picture of the obstacle I used to launch their catapults. I also included a rubric for grading. There are pre-project questions as well as post-project questions to reflect.
I tweak this project every year. From the beginning of the year, I am asked the question, when are we doing the catapults? because they have heard from older students about them.
