Catcher Phrase is a takeoff on a popular board game in which students try to get their teammates to guess a familiar concept from CATCHER IN THE RYE by giving novel-based clues, without saying the word or referencing its sound or spelling. (Change the rules as you see fit.) Before playing, students look up 40 of the 80 card concepts for homework and write their own descriptions to "prime the pump" for the game. ZIP file contains "Concepts" list for homework beforehand, plus editable pages of cards that can be printed on cardstock and cut apart, as well as an editable key (which could be also used as raw material for a matching section on a quiz or test). Finally, if you use a SMART-brand interactive white board, a SMART notebook file is included that can be used as a game board to track progress for up to five teams.
