This is a lesson I have taught with grade 10 classes and it has been a lot of fun to do. The students really get into speaking like Holden and for several days after I find them using his language in the classroom.
This lesson focuses on Holden’s voice by examining the elements of his narration. Students will define his language through a matching worksheet, brainstorm as a whole class elements of his narration, create a paragraph in Holden's voice in small groups and then finally reproduce Holden's voice in an independent short writing assignment.
