I love reading quizzes! I taught Catcher for a number of years and refined the quizzes each year. I would assign a chunk of text for the kids to read over the course of a few days and encourage them to take optional reading notes. On the due date for the reading I would open class with an opening writing (I included some of the journal entry prompts with the quizzes) and then give the "pop" quiz that all of them knew was coming. After all the kids finished, I would review the questions and answers as a class, and push them to support their responses. The quiz questions are admittedly level one, but we used them to develop discussion on specific aspects of the text and also to give them ideas for the essay we would write at book's end. I don't include answer keys -- I would challenge the kids to make one as we reviewed the quiz responses. Have fun!
