Santa needs a vacation! Help him "catch" some waves with this fun figurative language activity that targets idioms, metaphors, and similes. This product can be used before Christmas or after Christmas (tell your students Santa is tired after his busy Christmas and needs a break).
-Pg. 3: Surfing Santa cards
-Pgs. 5-9: 45 Idiom wave cards
-Pgs. 11-15: 45 Metaphor wave cards
-Pgs. 17-21: 45 Simile wave cards
-Pgs. 23-28: 45 Create your own metaphor or simile wave cards
-Pg. 29: Create your own wave cards!
-Pg. 30-31: Specialty cards
How to Play:
-Give each student a Surfing Santa card (pg. 3).
-Select a deck of wave cards for play (idioms, metaphors, similes, create a metaphor/simile).
-Shuffle all cards in addition to the specialty cards. Place face down on table.
-Student draws a card and explains the figurative language (first three decks) or creates a metaphor/simile with the words given (last deck). If correct, she puts the card with her Surfing Santa card.
-Student must follow directions on the specialty cards.
-Whoever catches the most waves for Santa, wins!
