In this lesson, students will identify and discuss problems and solutions and how, in this particular story, problems lead to more problems which need additional solutions. In addition, there is a bonus "enrichment" piece where students search for sensory images, figurative language, and discuss author's purpose.

Catching the Moon, by Crystal Hubbard is the inspirational true story of Marcenia Lyle - the first woman to play baseball in a men's professional baseball league.

Students love learning about real people and their stories of perseverance and triumph. Marcenia is a delightful role model. My fifth graders love her story!

This lesson is aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as well as Virginia SOLs.
