This activity is designed to help preschool/kindergarten students express category names for classroom and everyday items. I have found that the presentation of the concept in this format is successful with non-verbal children, too. The activity can be played in an individual session or within a small group. I read each picture to the child in the category row and hope that the student is able to express the category name. I provide 2-3 answer choice cards for the student that needs visual assistance in order to be successful.
- 3 category pages including; colors, letters, numbers, shapes, toys, food, animals, feelings, body parts, bugs, clothes, drinks
-1 page of answer cards with visuals
-1 page of answer cards with written answers
Simply print out activity.
Cut each answer card out. It’s best to keep the category game boards on a single sheet. For added durability laminate each cut out item. Printing game board on card stock adds extra durability. Place a small piece of rough velcro on the back of each answer card. Place a small piece of soft velcro on the shaded areas of the game boards.
