Product Description
In this activity, the students draw a tree map for four types of exponents. There is a branch for zero exponents, for negative exponents, for positive exponents, and for fractional (rational) exponents.

The students are to create their own expressions for each category, although the teacher may post various examples around the room.

The tree map helps students see and understand the differences between the various types of exponents. The tree map helps students see the "bigger picture" in an organized fashion.

The assignment comes with a rubric that the students use as instructions and the teacher uses to grade the tree maps.
