Students brainstorm words that fit into chosen categories that start with certain letters. It's a fun game of knowledge and speed - ages 8+. Teachers can choose categories that support the curriculum.
Kids love categorizing words activities. Word Wise is one such game. Teachers simply print the game cards and then come up with categories. The categories can be based upon topics in the grade level curriculum. Then they choose five letters the words much start with. Once the game card is set up, students are given a specified time to find as many words as they can using those parameters. The possibilities are endless. Students can build and expand vocabulary, reinforce classroom topics, and connect to the world by engaging in this rich word categorization game.
My 5th graders LOVE this game. They love it when I play along with them; they enjoy "beating" me ;)
My older students love this game!
Thanks for the format! I love playing this game with friends, glad to bring it to my classroom.
