This product includes a file folder activity to help students work on sorting different community helper, and community building items. Pictures are provided for each of the following community buildings: fire station, police station, hospital, restaurant, school, and post office. These can be attached to folders to create an actual "town". 48 small item pictures are included, and students are asked to sort each of the items into the correct building. In addition, supplemental worksheets are included with varying levels of difficulty. These worksheets target: category naming, identifying which item doesn't belong in a group of 3 and 4, listing items in various categories, and going on a "scavenger hunt" to find items that fit certain descriptions (i.e., "Find 3 items that are sharp," or "Find 3 items that make noise", etc).
Items included in the file folder activity come in both COLOR and BLACK AND WHITE (supplemental worksheets are available only in black and white). Some items may fit in more than one building, but I just tell my students to pick the building that makes the most sense.
This product is engaging, fun, and functional, and can also be used vocabulary, answering wh- questions, or attributes.
