Speech Universe

This sorting activity is used to target categorization skills both receptively and expressively. There are 10 different category mats and 60 different item cards.

Students place item cards on the correct mat. After the items are placed, you can focus on expressive language skills by having the student state the category the item is in. For example, the student would say "A cow is a farm animal."

There is a visual sentence mat to assist students who need visual supports to create sentences.

This is a great activity for Pre-K through First Grade students, as well as students with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Cognitive Impairments who are working on categorization.
