Caterpillar: Categories. Speech Therapy Activities for Spring.
Directions: Print one copy of each document. Laminate all cards and the board game.
Activity 1 Receptive Sorting: Lay out each caterpillar. Have students pull circle cards from a pile and sort them on to the correct caterpillar. Two levels of play are included. Level one includes color sorted caterpillars to provide support. For example, all of the drink items are on an orange circle that match the orange caterpillar. In level two, there are four different colors for each caterpillar.
Activity 2 Expressive Naming: Use the included board game and the caterpillar cards. Each child uses a coin or marker to move through the board game. Use a paperclip held by a pencil on the spinner. Move to the color the child spins. Choose a caterpillar card. Name four category members. Continue until someone wins the game.
Level 1: snacks, pets, drinks, farm animals, winter clothing, buildings, tools, seasons, body parts, breakfast foods, school tools, basketball
Level 2: weather, beach, balls, ocean animals, appliances, furniture, flowers, games, money
